Lucidity – Interactive Piece

So I finished my DFS project... WOOOHOOO! I had to go in on one day during the 'break' to set up my interactive piece. It took around 30mins to set up as there were a few problems with the projection. The problem was that I decided to use laminate floor underlay. I wanted to spend as little money as possible so went for the underlay at £15 for around 15metres, problem was that the edges were all warped as its only designed to be laid down not hung up between two pieces of wood! So the underlay would sag. I fixed this by using some strong adhesive tape (like the one they use when they try and shut up a hostage in those gangsta movies!) and a trusty staple gun (approx. 1 round a second depending on forearm strength and wind direction). I stapled the hell out of the underlay to the pieces of wood and taped the funk out of the wood to the surrounding walls. All that was needed was the back projection that worked a treat! Oh yeah and big fcuk off cube that I made out of £15 worth of foam board, £1's worth of electrical tape and double sided sticky tape (a personal favorite of mine!) and 3 hours of mad manic construction at 2 in the early hours of the day. All put together it looked like this:

You can see where the underlay is sagging at the top and in the middle, as I attempted to overlay them so there wasn't so much of a line in the middle. It worked though, even if it was a bodge job.

The next pic below is the piece in action or really Chants in action and action also being represented on 'underlay'. Several other people tried out the 'cube'. The 'cube' contains a Nintendo Wii Controller, this controller acts like a mouse like input device. Tilting the box tilts the accelerometers inside and then manipulates the graphics on 'screen' which is created in 'Processing'. Twas tre humorous to see people try and figure out how to manipulate the graphics with the cube. I should've really video taped it. Guess its going have to wait until the end of year show!
