I’ve been shooting and editing the Retro Rides Gathering event videos now since 2014. Each year the crew and roles change slightly and every year it’s always a difficult task to try and come up with something new. What doesn’t change is the relationship I have the with event owner – David, in fact we’ve created more pieces of film working together, so it’s always good to know your client or should I now say my friend. Bouncing ideas, backing tracks here and there as well as sequences is always better if you can work together – so with this one I felt that we really captured the anarchic yet all encompassing nature of this awesome event.
We wanted to keep this edit gritty and edgy, taking inspiration from 90’s skateboarding videos, using zooms, in and out of focus pulls and quick cuts and transitions. The titling was inspired by the intro sequence to the Netflix series Mind Hunter.
